Online Therapy Sessions

Support from wherever you are

I am currently offering therapy sessions online. Online therapy offers a secure and confidential way to access psychological support from the comfort of your home or any private space that works for you. In my experience online sessions can be a very helpful way for older teens and young adults to access therapy. Online sessions can also be especially helpful for parents who would benefit from being able to attend sessions together but struggle to do this in person due to child care and work commitments.

Many individuals considered online therapy for the first time during the pandemic. Remote therapy had an established evidence base prior to 2020, but research since then has continued to find that it is just as effective as in-person therapy.

I hold an interest in approaches which take a holistic approach and consider mind - body connections. I am also trained in offering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy interventions.

  • I can offer support and guidance around parenting. For the last 7 years I have been working in an NHS parenting service and hold considerable experience supporting parents with a range of issues. I am Solihull Trained which is a highly regarded therapeutic parenting model rooted in attachment theory, brain development research and behaviourism.

Challenges within family life and relationships can often arise during times of change and transition. I can offer support to navigate these periods through providing a shared thinking space to make sense of your child’s behaviour and the emotions that they may be trying to communicate. Alongside offering you a space as a parent to consider your feelings and emotions, together we can find ways to make sense of what’s going on for your child and consider helpful ways to respond.

    • Supporting parents navigating parenting children under 5 - key developmental issues such as emotion regulation, tantrums, behaviour which challenges, eating and sleeping

    • Understanding ways to make sense of your child’s behaviours and their emotions at any age and stage from early years through to teens

    • Supporting your child with emotion regulation, anxiety, frustration, sadness

  • I hold considerable experience in working with children and young people who are neurodivergent as well as working with parents seeking to make sense of a diagnosis and adapt their parenting. I do not offer formal assessment for Autism or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) however I do offer parenting support. I can offer support around.

    • Understanding your child’s diagnosis

    • Having a space to process your child’s diagnosis and consider your own emotions around this

    • Parenting guidance and support for children who are neurodivergent

    • Supporting your child who has Autism or ADHD with their emotions

    • Nursery and School liaison - working with systems around children who are neurodivergent to enable them to offer the best support possible

  • I offer the option of a one off online session with a follow up phone call. There may be times as a parent when you want to talk through a specific issue with a clinical psychologist however the presenting issue is something that you feel largely confident to resolve by yourself but you want some guidance and a space to talk through your thoughts, feelings and ideas. You may want some resources which you can take away and move forwards with.

I can offer a one off consultation slot and a follow up telephone call usually scheduled for a few weeks later. This option is available for low level difficulties where parents feel able to take forward ideas and resources shared and outwork them without a need for a longer number of sessions.

In order to consider whether this might be a helpful option for you I will ask you to complete a referral form and we can arrange a brief telephone consultation to see whether a one off session might be a suitable option for you.

These one off sessions can be helpful for mild or low level difficulties especially those which your child may grow out of or for example a specific transition or change you are preparing for. After the 75 minute session I will send a brief email with some ideas we considered together and any useful resources. After this I offer a 30 minute follow up call at a point when you have been able to try out some of the ideas we generated together.

Can I use health insurance to fund my sessions?

If your sessions will be paid for by a health insurance policy, please check with your insurer in advance of the initial session to ensure that your policy is valid and that your sessions will be covered in full.

I am in the process of registering with some of the main Healthcare Insurance Providers.

Currently I am a recognised health care provider with WPA and WPA Protocol.

How is your practice regulated?

I am registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC: reg. no. PYL33096).

I adhere to HCPC codes of ethical practice, details of which can be found at:

https://www.hcpc-uk.org/standards/standards-of-conduct-performance-and-ethics/

I have all appropriate professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

How will we begin? Setting up sessions and considering whether we will work together.

After an initial consultation either online or over the phone, I offer an assessment appointment. At this point we can get a more indepth sense of the kind of support you are looking, what kind of approach might be useful and consider whether we are a good fit for one another.

If we decide that sessions would be helpful I usually suggest starting with a block of six sessions and reviewing how we are getting on around sessions 4-6.

If there is a very specific issue and you are looking for a resourcing session rather than process led therapy sessions I can, if felt to be suitable, offer my one + one option of a consultation session, an email summarising ideas and offering resources and later a follow up call.

How long will we work together?

How long we work together will depend upon what you are seeking help with, the kind of approach we take and how the therapy progresses.

Ordinarily I suggest meeting weekly or bi-weekly. In some cases it might be appropriate to space our sessions out at wider intervals.

My aim is always to reach a point where you feel that there has been a positive difference in the difficulties that brought you to therapy, and that you feel confident these changes are sustainable. When working with teenagers and young people the process of considering how many sessions to have can be monitored and reviewed at points with parent(s) as the therapy progresses.

How will you store any data or information you record?

Within our sessions I will either make paper or electronic notes and these will be stored securely.

I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office and adhere to their guidance with regard to data handling.
